ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Keeping Promises and Focusing on the Future

Derrick is a steadfast leader who remains committed to sustainable growth that will strengthen Prince George’s County and the working families of District 6.

 

Since entering office in 2011, Councilman Davis has been instrumental in:

 

Fighting for Stronger Schools

 

  • Served as Chairman and Vice-Chairman of Health, Education and Human Services Committee (HEHS)

  • Served as Co-Chairman of the County's Race to The Top Committee

  • Executed the first performance audit in nearly 20 years to restore accountability in a $1.7 billion system

  • Supported School Board reforms to bolster our system leaders, increasing our school system’s capacity

  • Partnered with State Legislators amend unfavorable funding errors in the State Net Taxable Income Formula, opening access to nearly $20 million annually

  • Successfully lobbied for historic expansion and access in Pre-Kindergarten services

Expanding Business and Increasing Jobs

  • Chairman of the Council's Transportation, Housing and Environment Committee (THE)

  • Council representative on Prince George's Economic Development Corporation (PGEDC) Board

  • Co-Chaired the committee to develop and adopt the county's Economic Development Strategic Plan

  • Led the charge to ensure that District 6 is relocation site for the new Prince George's County Regional Medical Center

 

  • Continues to ensuring continued growth in District 6 with the forward movement of Westphalia Town Center

  • Continues to lead the charge to revitalize, utilize, and redevelop around our 15 Metro Stations

  • Continues to support County efforts to strengthen locally owned businesses

 

Strengthening Communities

 

  • Vice-Chairmen of the Council's Public Safety & Fiscal Management Committee

  • Initiated plans to facilitate a community driven process to repurpose golf courses at Lake Arbor and Villages of Marlboro

  • Initiated the Redevelopment of Forestville Plaza

  • Opened the North Forestville Recreation Center

  • Initiated the Redevelopment of Largo Town Center Metro Station (sector planning)

  • Facilitated continued grant funding for youth programming in the City of District Heights

 

 

 

 

Many of these accomplishments were integral elements of Councilman Davis’ S.M.A.R.T. Initiative that was detailed during his campaign run in 2011.
