Our Community Deserves Better!

June 24, 2010

In the wake of the senseless killings during the past two weeks; one a young man at a house party in Mitchellville, the other a Maryland State Trooper in Forestville, it pains and angers me that these two tragedies occurred in Prince George’s County in and bordering District 6!

Gone are two sons of Prince George’s County—one whose life was cut short at the age of 21 trying to do the right thing by breaking up an altercation at an event meant for people to celebrate success, a life snuffed out before allowing us a glimpse of his fullest potential. The other a 24 year old role model in his community, a true mentor and God-Brother to young men in and around Seat Pleasant, who was simply working extra hours off-duty to earn money likely to support his mentoring efforts.

As our citizens and guests traverse this beautiful, spacious, attractive confluence of opportunity others call "the most affluent urban area for African-Americans anywhere in the country,” I will make it my commitment, if elected to explore and implement multi dimensional solutions that takes into consideration all facets of how we can safely live, work and play and the secure the resources necessary to responsibly maintain public safety.

Not one more citizen should become a headliner in death and certainly not one who is willing to protect and serve the community you and I live in. We deserve better! Together, we will make it better.

Rest in Peace my young brothers, Mr. Leach and Officer Brown.
